One of the many things sailors did to pass the time while on long whaling voyages was create scrimshaw art. At this program children will be able to see some examples of real scrimshaw art made by whale-men and then be able to create their own versions of scrimshaw art to bring home. This program will take place at the Rogers Mansion and those who come will also get a tour of our newest exhibit “Hunting The Whale: The Rise and Fall of a Southampton Industry.”
